5/3/2009 - The Jacoby Custom Cues Mid American Ladies 9 Ball Tour has officially kicked off their inaugural season this weekend with the “Billiards on Main: Illinois Ladies 9-Ball State Championship.” The event is hosted by Mark Hammerl, owner of Billiards on Main in Galesburg, IL. Ladies from 8 states have come to Galesburg to compete for a chance to play in the WPBA 2009 U S Open and a prize pool of $2900 that will be paid out to 100% of the field.
Saturday’s action was intense with numerous hill-hill matches. Four ladies ended the day on the winner’s side. WPBA players Nicole Keeney, currently ranked 25th, and Liz Lovely, ranked 33rd will meet tomorrow. The remaining two players are Jacqui Herrera-Schroeder and 19 year old Rachel Byrket, last year’s runner-up to Iris Ranola.
On the one loss side four ladies stayed alive for Sunday’s finals, former WPBA players, Diana Minor and Julia Gabriel, along with Kassandra Hernandez and local hopeful Jennifer Fugman. Cash prizes were paid to Carey Jones, Karla Chorny, Elisha Lewis, Chelsea Hardwick, Tina Hess, Krystle Hoover, Linda Wirgau, Erin Thornton, Becky Todd, Mary Cavanaugh, and Tawni Lewis. Sunday’s action begins at 11:00 am CST.
Sunday kicked of with Liz Lovely defeating Nicole Keeney and Rachel Byrket for the hot-seat.
On the one loss side, Nicole Keeney's wins over Herrera-Schroeder and Byrket
placed her in the finals against Lovely. In a hard fought match, Lovely earned a hill-hill win
in the finals.
